It has been a mightily impressive first season in English football for Angel Rangel. The 25-year-old arrived from Terrassa last summer as part of Roberto Martinez's recruitment drive and he has played a huge part in Swansea's success this term. More than 50 games and two goals is a sign of the consistency Angel has shown and was one of the main reasons he was voted in the PFA Team of the Year by his peers. Rangel is one of five Swansea players to make the final XI such has been their dominance of League this season as they have lifted the title with a stylish brand of attacking football. Givemefootball's Ian Clarkson spoke exclusively to Rangel about life in England as he celebrates a glorious 12 months.
Q:HOW DO YOU FEEL AFTER BEING CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF LEAGUE ONE?
A:I feel fantastic as everything has been good in my first season in English football not only the football. We finished the season on top of the league and got promotion and that in football is the most important thing. When you go to a new country you are happy because it is a different culture and you enjoy the change but after that I have to be happy with myself and my teammates.
Q:HOW HAVE YOU FOUND ENGLISH FOOTBALL?
A:I like English football. At the beginning of the season it was a little bit hard but I adapted quickly. I think and England is very different to Spanish football as it is quicker, stronger and I think it has more quality. I have enjoyed it even more as all the team has won an award – promotion and the title.
Q:WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WIN THIS AWARD?
A:It is a great feeling to have won this award. There are five players from Swansea City who have been named in the team but I think everyone in the squad deserves to be in the team because everyone played their part this season in winning the league. We have to enjoy the title and the summer and then look forward to next season which will be another challenge.
Q:WHAT IS ROBERTO MARTINEZ LIKE AS A MANAGER?
A:He is a good manager. He is very clever and knows a lot of different styles of football. He knows the Spanish and British style having played lots of years in England and he knows who can play in British football to make sure that we win games. He has been the best manager in League One by far.
Q:HOW DO YOU THINK SWANSEA WILL FARE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT SEASON?
A:I don't know a lot about the Championship but I have seen lots of games on television and I think if we play like we did this season we will be fine. The league is stronger so we will have to be better but if we play like this season then you never know what will happen.
Q:ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO RENEWING RIVALRIES WITH CARDIFF CITY?
A:I know that we are rivals and it is only two games so we will try and win them. The supporters have already made me aware of how important this game is to them!
