Blackpool supporters have long been in the shadows of Lancashire neighbours Blackburn, Burnley and Bolton. But that might all be about to change.
This proud and once famous club is going about their mini-revolution quietly and effectively. Although doing things quietly is not something you would normally associate with manager Ian Holloway.
The arrival of Ian Holloway appears to have given everyone a catalyst and the side now sit in fifth position and their run-down ground is set to finally be completed.
Blackpool’s best start at Bloomfield Road for 62 years usurps even the start made by the team of 1955-56 who finished in the top flight. But Holloway is not counting his chickens and insists there is a long way to go before he will start dreaming of a top flight return.
"You can only enjoy things right at the end because you haven't done anything until the final day,” he told The Blackpool Gazette. "I was in the play-offs all year at Bristol Rovers once and we dropped out of them on the final day of the season
“We had injury after injury and I got blamed for us not getting promoted or making the play-offs. "No-one talked about the great football we played. We had been playing like Brazil at the start of the season according to a lot of people. But no one remembered that at the end.
"So it is all about what you have achieved at the end of the season. Yes I am enjoying it and we've had a good start but we've done nothing yet and there are still a lot of things we've got to learn if we want to carry it on.
"It's a good club to be at. I am the manager of the football team and that's what I do.”
There is no doubt the rebuilt Bloomfield Road is having an impact on the club and moves are afoot to improve the atmosphere still further. Winning promotion would only add to that...
