Burton have brought in goalkeeper Ross Atkins on a season-long loan from neighbours Derby.

Atkins, 21, has been on trial at the Pirelli Stadium and featured in pre-season friendlies against his parent club, Alfreton and Tamworth.

Brewers manager Paul Peschisolido had been keen to add a keeper with 48-year-old goalkeeping coach Kevin Poole the only recognised stopper at the club.

He said: "Ross has come in and shown that he is a very good and very reliable goalkeeper. He has performed well in all of the pre-season matches that he has played and I'm delighted to be able to take him on a season-long loan."

Atkins himself added: "I'm really happy it's all been sorted.

"I've been trying not to get my hopes up over the last couple of weeks, thinking about being a Burton Albion player, but now it's all been done I'm very happy."
