West Bromwich Albion officially unveiled former Chelsea star Roberto Di Matteo as their new Head Coach yesterday as the club adopt a continental style management system.

Di Matteo was appointed like a bolt from the blue last season when he arrived at MK Dons, replacing Paul Ince. He managed to guide them to the play-offs in League One however, and impressed many observers.

Twelve months later and he is hoping to repeat the same trick at Albion, and even go one step further by bouncing them straight back into the Premier League.

Working with Sporting and Technical Director Dan Ashworth, Di Matteo has also added Eddie Newton as Assistant Coach and Ade Mafe as Conditioning Coach.

And Di Matteo admits he can’t wait to get stuck into his new role as the big kick off is only just over a month away.

"My philosophy is to play successful and winning football. We have our view on how we would like to achieve that success. I think that will turn out to be a positive style of football and we'll try to apply that to the Baggies this season.

“It’s all about winning games and I think we’ll be capable of doing that. I don’t want to win any beauty prizes but my philosophy is to get to my target in a certain way. Obviously that reflects in the stats that the MK Dons were the second best scoring team in England.

“We also had the second best defence in our league and it is important to have that kind of balance.”
