Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock has confirmed young striker Ashley Barnes has held discussions over a new contract at the club.

The 19-year-old has been one of the success stories of a poor season for Argyle, with his strike partnership with Jamie Mackie blossoming in recent weeks, but Sturrock wants Barnes to keep his feet on the ground.

He told the club's official website "We are in discussions (with Barnes) but I'd rather he concentrates on the games than a contract."

Meanwhile, the Greens boss insists Rudi Douala needs to prove he is worthy of long-term deal with the club.

The Cameroon international has struggled to establish himself since joining in March and Sturrock wants to test the striker in the remaining two fixtures after Saturday's game with Doncaster.

"The only way I can (offer him a new contract) is by seeing him in battle conditions," he said.
