Cardiff maintained their lead at the top of the Coca-Cola Championship after Steven Thompson scored a late goal to overcome Southampton.The striker hit a 20-yard shot six minutes from time after a hard-fought game at Ninian Park. Southampton had been more impressive from the start penning the Bluebirds back but it was the hosts who almost went ahead through Michael Chopra.Kenwyne Jones and Claus Lundekvam went close for the visitors before Thompson´s intervention. Grzegorz Rasiak almost levelled with a toe-poke at the death but Cardiff held on.
