Birmingham are set to redouble their attempts to sign Brann Bergen defender Paul Scharner after having an initial bid, believed to be around £2.1million, rejected by the Norwegian club.Blues manager Steve Bruce has identified Scharner as one of his leading targets when the transfer window reopens on January 1.The Austrian international, who has also been linked with Middlesbrough, has revealed his desire to join City and Bruce knows he has to make contingency plans should skipper Kenny Cunningham opt to end his association with the club next summer.
