Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan has been handed mixed news over injured duo Adam Johnson and Andrew Taylor.
Midfielder Johnson limped out of Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup third-round defeat by Manchester City with a recurrence of a hamstring problem, although there does not appear to be any tear.
A club spokesman said: "Adam Johnson suffered a tight hamstring on Saturday and he will be subject to a late test before Saturday's game against Swansea."
That will be encouraging for Strachan, who admitted at the weekend the loss of the club's leading scorer had been a major blow to their hopes of edging past City.
However, full-back Taylor, who has not played a senior game since September because of an ankle ligament injury, will undergo surgery on a double hernia on Tuesday.
Dutchman Marvin Emnes, who suffered bruised ribs at the weekend, is expected to be fit for the Swansea game but Jeremie Aliadiere is in consultation with his orthopaedic specialist after suffering a reaction on his return following ankle surgery. Skipper Emanuel Pogatetz is still around three weeks away from a return from a hamstring injury.
