Middlesbrough have confirmed that midfielder Mohamed Shawky has left the club to join Turkish side Kayserispor.

The 28-year-old Egypt international has been handed a free transfer after making just 22 appearances for the Teessiders since his £650,000 switch from Al-Ahly in August 2007.

His departure comes as manager Gordon Strachan attempts to re-shape his squad for the second half of the Coca-Cola Championship season.

Boro have held talks with Celtic quartet Gary Caldwell, Barry Robson, Willo Flood and Chris Killen, although Caldwell is also wanted by Wigan.
