George Burley's Scotland squad has been decimated further with the news Scott Brown has been forced to withdraw ahead of the friendly against Japan.

The Celtic midfielder has been troubled by a persistent ankle problem and travelled to London this week to seek the advice of a specialist.

Burley revealed earlier on Tuesday he was awaiting news on Brown's availability for the international and had hoped he would be able to join up with the rest of the squad.

However, the Hoops star has become the seventh player to withdraw ahead of the clash in Yokohama on Saturday.

He joins club-mates Shaun Maloney and Danny Fox, as well as Steven Naismith, Kevin Thomson, Robert Snodgrass and Garry O'Connor in crying off.

Dundee United midfielder Craig Conway has been added to the squad, hours after Tannadice team-mate Scott Robertson was also called up. Lee Miller and Lee Wallace have also been drafted into the pool.
