Burnley may have had a gruelling campaign but the 61st game of their season will be one of the most important in the club’s long history with a place in the Premier League at stake.

The Clarets booked their place in the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United on May 25th following a 2-0 victory at Reading last night, courtesy of goals from Martin Paterson and Steven Thompson, but manager Owen Coyle is keen to keep his players’ feet on the ground ahead of the showpiece at Wembley.

“There is no place for celebration yet. We recognise that we have not achieved our goal yet,” said Coyle.

“The prize is a place in the Premier League and that is what everyone wants. We have earned ourselves a chance.

“We have now played 60 games, used the least amount of players in the Championship, our attendance average is in the bottom three and our turnover is in the bottom four.

“But we put ourselves on the line for each other and that is what this team is about. There is no doubt that this is well up there with my achievements.

“I played and scored in a play-off final as a player but as a manager I am responsible for a team and a whole town.

“It is something we are all looking forward to but I thought Sheffield United were outstanding against Preston earlier in the week.”
