Cardiff have rejected an audacious approach for Jay Bothroyd from Welsh rivals Swansea.
Cardiff are thought to want £3million for the in-form striker who was recently linked with a return to the Premier League at Aston Villa.
Swans chairman Huw Jenkins told the South Wales Echo: "He is not a player that is within our price range. Cardiff's valuation for Jay is miles out from where we put ours. That is where things stand at the moment. We couldn't come anywhere near Cardiff's valuation."
He added: "We have spoken to Dave Jones about the possibility of signing Jay. We were interested in a number of strikers and that was one conversation we had.
"Whether you are looking at the Championship, above or below, you want players that suit what we believe is right for our formation and Jay is one of them."
