Coventry have appointed former player Lee Carsley as the club's new Under-18s coach.

The 37-year-old captained the Sky Blues from midfield throughout the 2010/11 season but, following his retirement from playing, has decided to take a coaching role with the midlands side's academy.

He told the club's official website: "I couldn't think of a better place to learn my trade of being a coach than Coventry City.

"The academy has a great reputation of producing players that are playing in the first team.

"I've been a player for 21 years and it's a bit strange getting out of that mentality."

Carsley represented the Republic of Ireland in both the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, earning a total of 39 caps for his country, and enjoyed a long club career at Derby, Blackburn, Everton, Birmingham as well as two separate spells in Coventry.
