Reading manager Steve Coppell wants his team to prove they are worthy of their play-off place when they entertain Barnsley on Saturday.

The 53-year-old knows the relegation-threatened Tykes are desperate for the three points, but insists the Royals are in equal need of the win.

Coppell told the club's official website: "Barnsley are cornered cats at the moment and are desperate for the three points but similarly we are."

He added: "We've got a lot to prove to ourselves and possibly to the rest of the division about our credentials because there have been a lot of questions asked and recently we haven't had the answers.

"But there has been a lot of resolve within the squad of players to try to put our situation right."
