Coventry City chairman Ray Ranson insists the Sky Blue revival will start in earnest next season as Chris Coleman’s men look for a return to the top flight.

They faded away last season to end the campaign in the bottom half, which was still an improvement on 2008 when they only survived on the last day of the campaign.

However, Ranson insists 18 months into his Coventry City stewardship that the building blocks are now firmly in place for a resurgence.

"I like to think that we are a long way down the line in doing that and we have stability,” he told the Coventry Telegraph. “We are 18 months into our restructuring and if we get the type of players we want then I am confident we can have a good season next year.

Newcastle and Middlesbrough will have a lot of turmoil and I am not betting on them being absolute certs for promotion straight back up.

"It can be a huge shock to big clubs when they come down and it all depends on their plans and the players that come and go. You only have to look at Charlton, Norwich and Southampton to see that things change over a short period of time, so there is a lot of work to be done over the summer.

“Newcastle are a massive club, a fantastic club. I am sure they will re-group and be a force in the Championship – that’s a definite. Middlesbrough are also a big club, but will them coming down make it harder to get out of the Championship? Not really.

“Both will have to undergo major restructuring and it is a question of how they do that.

West Brom will not have the same turmoil. I imagine they will keep their manager, Tony Mowbray, who has done a great job there and I am sure they will tweak a few things.

"They know this league very well and I believe they will be one of the favourites next year.”
