Watford manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed midfielder Don Cowie will not play again this season.

The 26-year-old was signed from Inverness in January and proved an instant hit at Vicarage Road, scoring three goals in 10 starts before picking up a thigh injury earlier this month.

Rodgers said: "Don Cowie will be out for the rest of the season. The problem with his thigh was always going to mean he'd be out for three to four weeks and there's no point rushing him back and making it worse."

He added: "It's a shame as he's come in and been terrific.

"He's shown great intelligence and I'm really looking forward to working with him next season. He's a very good player at this level."
