Burnley manager Owen Coyle is close to signing a contract extension with the Coca-Cola Championship outfit.

Coyle's existing deal runs until the summer of 2011 but the highly-rated Scot, who arrived at Turf Moor from St Johnstone in November 2007, has been rewarded with a deal which takes him through to at least 2012.

Coyle said: "I sat with (director) Brendan Flood and the chairman a week ago and I think more or less we are thereabouts in principle."

He added: "There are certain things that motivate me and I want to fulfil the project I came here to do and the plan I have in place.

"That was the biggest thing for me. Wherever I have been I have never been motivated by money."

Coyle has guided the Clarets to the brink of clinching a play-off spot and also presided over a stunning run to the Carling Cup semi-finals this season.
