It took a couple of days but Brian Beard finally managed to track down one of Crewe's goalscoring heroes from Saturday's 2-2 draw at West Brom, and not just any goalscoring hero because David Wright wrote himself into the Crewe record books with his goal that put the Alex 2-1 up. And we can reveal EXCLUSIVELY here on givemefootball that no longer will David be a target for ridicule as having a worse scoring record than a previous right back at Gresty Road, Rob Jones, because the goal at The Hawthorns, his third for the Alex, took David ahead of the former Liverpool and England full back.

Q:SO, COME ON DAVID GIVE US ALL THE DETAILS OF YOUR GOAL AT THE HAWTHORNS?

A:The build up began on the left hand side and I was in the centre circle but then Steve Jones took the ball down the right wing and I just made a support run into the box and when Dean Ashton headed it down I just managed to half-volley it with the outside of my foot into the corner of the net.

Q:YOU SEEM TO SAVE YOUR GOALS FOR WEST BROM DON'T YOU?

A:Not really, my last goal was against Chesterfield last year, but I now have two of the three against West Brom. This one was two minutes before the break and it put us 2-1 up.

Q:YOU MUST HAVE CELEBRATED WILDLY?

A:I suppose I did. I just went mad and I think there was a certain amount of frustration in there, because I know I should score more goals, plus a bit of relief that I had finally got back on the score sheet.

Q:AS A TEAM IT MUST HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATING TO GO 2-1 UP AT THE HOME OF THE LEAGUE LEADERS ONLY TO CONCEDE A LATE EQUALISER?

A:Definitely, especially as both goals we conceded could easily have been prevented. The first one was a mistake by the keeper and the other was when one of our players lost his man but it's little mistakes like those that are annoying because you know that it just takes a little more concentration to ensure that one point could have been three.

Q:YOU HAVE HAD SOME GOOD RESULTS AGAINST TOP TEAMS IN RECENT TIMES?

A:Yes, but I think that we play better against better teams but one good thing is that we still have some of our important players to come back from injury so as we are getting results like we are, with players missing, hopefully, when the likes of Dave Brammer and Neil Sorvel return we can push on even further.

Q:AS A TEAM, YOU SEEM TO BE COPING BETTER WITH DIVISION ONE THAN LAST TIME AROUND, DO YOU AGREE?

A:I think the boys have been there before and now we are a bit more experienced than last time and I think it is showing. The success we had last season was very important because we got used to winning nearly every week and that, along with promotion, was a massive confidence-booster.

Q:HOW FAR ARE CREWE CAPABLE OF GOING?

A:Before, when people were talking about going for promotion or the top six places, I was saying, no were not good enough. But I am starting to think that maybe we are good enough. We have dropped some silly points this season that maybe we shouldn't have and if we had held on to them, like being pegged back after leading Bradford 2-0 at home, for instance, we would be in the top six now, because there's only about four points between us and the top group.

Q:DARIO SAID RECENTLY THAT HE FELT YOU WERE NOW READY TO PLAY IN THE PREMIERSHIP. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

A:I would love to get there. That's exactly what I want to do. It's nice for the manager to say that but it would be nice if someone at a Premiership club thought the same and put their hand in their pocket and made my dream a reality.
