Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies admits he never had any doubts that his side could avoid the drop from the Coca-Cola Championship.

The Reds' safety in England's second tier was secured after fellow strugglers Norwich slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Reading on Monday.

And Davies told the club's official website: "I didn't [doubt the club could avoid relegation] to be honest. I'm very confident in my job and very confident in how we work."

He added: "There's no doubt I've got a fantastic staff. I think everybody at the club and all the staff concerned deserve huge credit, they've proved to be an outstanding group to work with.

"We've got a brilliant young team and they've worked ever so hard but don't forget the people in the background, who have given us nothing but support since they came in here.

"And the fans, which I've said for months and months, have played a huge part."
