Derby have been dealt another injury blow with the news Steve Davies has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old striker is set to undergo surgery on Friday on a stress fracture of a metatarsal in his right foot and will miss Derby's remaining eight matches in their battle for Championship survival.

"It is another injury problem we could well do without and is a bitter shame as Steve was just starting to get some regular first-team football under his belt, which we believe he was benefiting from," said manager Nigel Clough.

"He will have his operation and then he will need to concentrate hard on getting himself right for the start of pre-season training - just like Miles Addison and Paul Green, who have had similar injuries."

Davies is the fourth Rams player to have his campaign prematurely ended - and the third with a foot injury - with Paul Green (foot), Miles Addison (foot) and Dean Leacock (groin) also sidelined.
