The transfer window is open and one of the first January sales was Deon Burton who made the short trip a cross South Yorkshire from Rotherham to Sheffield Wednesday for a fee of £100,000. The 29-year-old striker became an instant hit with the Hillsborough faithful as he helped the Owls to victory against Crewe, so lifting them out of the bottom three. Givemefootball's Lawrie Madden caught up with the much-travelled striker.

Q:A WINNING DEBUT, SO A CRACKING START?

A:Yes the three points was very important especially against Crewe who are struggling. I made a goal and if I had scored it would have been the icing on the cake for me on my debut. The win has moved us up two places so it’s been a good start.

Q:HOW WAS IT PLAYING WITH PLAYERS YOU HARDLY KNOW?

A:We only had a brief introduction sp it was difficult not knowing the players, but I knew Marcus Tudgay from my Derby days so that helped.

Q:AND YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE TEAM?

A:I thought the back four was magnificent and didn't put a foot wrong all day. If we can stop the goals going in at the back and start scoring then we will move up the table quickly.

Q:WAS IT A DIFFICULT DECISION TO LEAVE ROTHERHAM?

A:When I came to the club I was hoping for the play-offs but that was not happening so when an opportunity to join a massive club like Sheffield Wednesday came along, I knew I had to take it. Mick Harford signed me at Rotherham so when he left that had a little bit of an effect on me.

Q:WHAT'S YOUR MAIN AIM NOW?

A:The main aim is to help the team move away from the bottom of the table. I am cup tied for next week so I have a couple of weeks to get into the swing of training at Wednesday and a chance to mingle with the lads and get to know them better. In terms of goals, I've not set any targets. I just believe that if you play well you will get results and that I will get chances and the goals will come.

Q:Q. WILL IT BE A DIFFICULT TRANSITION - GOING FROM ROTHERHAM TO WEDNESDAY?

A:With all due respect to Rotherham, this is a massive club. I am not phased by playing in front of the big crowds. It is like a cauldron but I like it. I played at Derby and so I am used to big crowds, although I think this is a bigger club.

Q:Q. SO WHAT ARE THE PROSPECTS FOR THE BURTON-TUDGAY PARTNERSHIP?

A:I think the seeds of a partnership have been established. I flicked the ball on for the goal which Marcus scored from so I am sure we can strike up a good relationship. We are similar in many ways but hopefully we can complement each other as well.
