Bristol City defender Liam Fontaine has been ruled out for at least three weeks with an ankle injury.

A hospital scan has revealed that the injury he sustained in the Championship defeat at Derby was more serious than first thought.

"Liam's injury is worse than we feared," Robins boss Gary Johnson told the Bristol Evening Post. "He went for the scan on Monday and it showed up ligament damage. He will be out for a minimum of three weeks and maybe longer."

Fontaine will almost certainly miss the games against Peterborough, Plymouth, Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday.
