Nottingham Forest have made a bid of more than £1million for Southampton striker David McGoldrick.

Manager Billy Davies has been tracking the 21-year-old's progress for some time and has now made his move to bring the Nottingham-born player to the City Ground.

"We have made a bid that is in excess of £1million and we are waiting a response," chief executive Mark Arthur told the Nottingham Evening Post.

The former Notts County player scored 14 goals for Southampton as they were relegated from the Championship amid a number of off-the-field problems.

Forest, who have also lodged bids for QPR striker Dexter Blackstock and Preston captain Paul McKenna, must now wait to see whether the proposed takeover of Southampton by the Pinnacle Consortium will affect their offer.
