Bristol City have signed Colchester goalkeeper Dean Gerken for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old has penned a two-year contract at Ashton Gate after falling out of favour at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

He told City's official website: "It`s been a whirlwind move for me, taking just three or four days. I'm over the moon with the move. It`s a massive club that plays good football. The players always look like they enjoy their football here."

Gerken spent time on loan at Darlington last season but will now challenge Adriano Basso for the right to be City`s first choice goalkeeper.

"I know Adriano's a quality goalkeeper, he's proven at this level and I'm looking forward to working with him," he added.

"I want to play at the highest level possible. I had two good seasons at Championship level with Colchester and now I want to play in the Championship again."
