With Simon Grayson's first choice keeper out injured he turned to his new signing Paul Rachubka - and it did not go well.
Conceding five goals is always a bad sign for a manager, but when three of those goals come from mistakes by your newly signed goalkeeper, it's time for a knee-jerk loan signing.
Former Manchester United trainee paul Rachubka was taken off at half time against Blackpool after three howlers, forcing the untested Alex Cairns to debut.
"The real kick in the teeth was the three mistakes Paul made, unfortunately," said Grayson.
"There's not a lot I could say to him. He's obviously really down but I felt I had no opportunity to keep him on.
As to whether Rachubka starts on Sunday against Leicester, Grayson was not prepared to commit;
"It's something I have to consider for the weekend," he said. "Do I play Paul, do I play Alex Cairns, who is a young kid, or do I go into the loan market?
"If we're going to do something we'll do it before the weekend but we'll have to see what's out there and if I decide to do it or not."
This was the first time since signing Rachubka on a free from Blackpool that Grayson had not defended the 'keeper's ability. Instead he chose to concentrate on the quality of the 18-year-old reserve Cairns.
Many fans will be extremely disappointed as Rachubka was supposedly a replacement for the highly rated Kasper Schmeichel who left over the summer.
