Watford boss Malky Mackay was relieved to bring a long-running transfer target to Vicarage Road on transfer deadline day with the capture of Andrew Taylor.

The left-back has joined from Middlesbrough on an initial six-month loan deal and Mackay revealed that he was keen to bring him in to the group at the Hornets.

He said: "Andrew is someone we've been tracking for a while."

He added: "He is naturally left-footed so will give us something different as he joins our group of defensive options.

"We are delighted to have him here for six months. He can really get settled in and enjoy playing regular first-team football again."
