New Watford manager Malky Mackay expects to complete the signing of Aberdeen skipper Scott Severin next week.

The versatile 30-year-old, who has 15 caps for Scotland, is out of contract at Pittodrie and is available on a free transfer.

Mackay told BBC Scotland: "It`s something we hope to get done very, very soon."

He added: "I went up and had a look at him myself and we had scouts watching him for the last six months or so.

"I've spoken to a lot of people up in Scotland about him and I`ve met him, and he`s certainly someone who has impressed me in terms of his character."
