Charlton captain Mark Hudson believes Phil Parkinson is the man to guide the beleaguered club back into the Championship at the first attempt.

The Addicks were relegated following Saturday's 2-2 draw with Blackpool with Parkinson having failed to arrest their slide since taking over from Alan Pardew in November.

Charlton are unbeaten in their last five games, and although their improvement came too late to save them, Hudson feels the club should stick with Parkinson, who guided Colchester to promotion from League One in 2006.

"It is important we start well next season. We need to sort out our managerial situation, and I hope Parky stays as he has experience of League One," said the defender.

"Everyone has to take responsibility for this. That goes from the top of the club down to the players on the pitch. Everyone has to hold up their hands."
