Ipswich manager Roy Keane has hinted he may recall teenage defender Tommy Smith early from his loan spell with League One side Brentford.

The 19-year-old recently extended his stay with the Bees, but Keane has a 24-hour recall clause in place and may choose to bring the centre-half back to Portman Road before the end of his three-month loan.

Keane told the club's official website: We're happy for him to stay at Brentford but it wouldn't surprise me if he was back here soon, maybe over the next few weeks. We'll see what happens."GiveMeFootball TV Championship Preview: Newcastle United v Cardiff

He added: "Sometimes a manager can be selfish and hold on to all his players but I like my players playing football.

"Tommy is playing games week in, week out and that is what going out on loan is all about."
