Ipswich manager Roy Keane has hinted he may recall teenage defender Tommy Smith early from his loan spell with League One side Brentford.

The 19-year-old recently extended his stay with the Bees, but Keane has a 24-hour recall clause in place and may choose to bring the centre-half back to Portman Road before the end of his three-month loan.

Keane told the club's official website: We're happy for him to stay at Brentford but it wouldn't surprise me if he was back here soon, maybe over the next few weeks. We'll see what happens."

He added: "Sometimes a manager can be selfish and hold on to all his players but I like my players playing football.

"Tommy is playing games week in, week out and that is what going out on loan is all about."
