Ipswich defender Tommy Smith has joined Brentford on a one-month loan deal.

The 19-year-old New Zealand World Cup hopeful is set replace Town team-mate Pim Balkestein in the Bees' back four after he was recalled by boss Roy Keane.

Brentford manager Andy Scott said: "Tommy's another player we have been keeping an eye on for some time and is a player with a lot of potential. "We hope his time with us will help him fulfil the promise he has shown and in turn help him with his ambitions to represent New Zealand in the World Cup finals this summer."
