Strikers David Healy and Daryl Murphy are both hoping to make their debuts for Ipswich when Middlesbrough visit Portman Road.
Manager Roy Keane raided former club Sunderland to sign the the pair on loan on transfer deadline day and they could both start against Gordon Strachan's side.
Defender Alex Bruce was surprisingly allowed to join Leicester on loan on Monday so will not be involved while striker Tamas Priskin moved to QPR.
Captain Jon Walters continues to be ruled out by a hamstring injury and is joined on the sidelines by goalkeepers Richard Wright and Brian Murphy.
Wright has stepped up his comeback from a knee injury and could be available by March while Murphy could be available to make his debut in the next few weeks after injuring his ankle.
Winger Luciano Civelli will not be available until next season as his troubled recovery from a serious knee injury continues.
New signings Scott McDonald, Lee Miller and Kyle Naughton go straight into the Middlesbrough squad.
The trio will join transfer-window arrivals Chris Killen, Willo Flood and Stephen McManus, although Barry Robson is suspended following his sending-off against Bristol City last weekend.
Manager Strachan will hope McDonald and Miller in particular can compensate for the loss of 12-goal winger Adam Johnson following his move to Manchester City.
But Strachan will head for Portman Road with injuries continuing to limit his options and Isaiah Osbourne having returned to Aston Villa after his loan deal expired.
Chris Riggott, Emanuel Pogatetz (both hamstring), Jeremie Aliadiere (ankle) and Rhys Williams (pelvic injury) are all still out, while Seb Hines (ankle and knee ligament) and Matthew Bates (cruciate ligament) remain on the long-term casualty list.
