Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins will have Gary Hooper back in his squad in time for Saturday's FA Cup third round tie against Barnsley.
The Iron's leading scorer has missed the last two matches with an ankle problem but is due to start training again on Thursday.
Adkins, who will also welcome back Cliff Byrne from suspension at the weekend, told the club's official website: "He [Hooper] was not far away from making Monday's game."
The news comes as a timely boost for Adkins, who will be without suspended duo Grant McCann and Andrew Wright against the Tykes.
