Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has admitted Fabian Delph could leave on loan this month, as his former club Leeds registered an interest in his services.

Delph has managed just 11 appearances this season and has had to compete with the likes of Stiliyan Petrov, Ciaran Clark, Chris Herd and Stephen Ireland for a place in the centre of the Villains midfield.

McLeish said: "Fabian is one we might think about going on loan, Simon Grayson did try to call me (about Delph) but i've not spoken to him yet."

Leeds may want to up their efforts to borrow back Delph this January amidst reports yesterday that Norwich City have agreed a fee for their captain, Jonny Howson.

A move for fellow central-midfielder Delph would somewhat appease the Elland Road faithful, who will be downcast at the news of Howson's potential £2 million departure.

22-year-old Delph managed 46 appearances for the Whites after he made his breakthrough way back in 2006, and signed for Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee in 2009.
