Leeds United's January spending began today as United States international Robbie Rogers joined the club after a successful trial.

GiveMeFootball understands that the deal hinges on a work permit being obtained for the winger.

The move will spell Rogers' second stint in European football after a season with Dutch club Heerenveen where he didn't make a senior appearance.

Since 2007, Rogers has been plying his trade in his homeland with Columbus Crew and has become a household name in Major League Soccer.

During this time he has made 18 senior appearances for the United States at international level and was part of the squad that were runners up at the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Simon Grayson said of the signing: "We're delighted to have a agreed a deal with Robbie, he's been training with us and he came to Arsenal to get a feel of the group."

Rogers' arrival will provide good competition for places in the Whites' side with Robert Snodgrass, Ramon Nunez and Andros Townsend all capable of playing on the flanks.
