Brentford are leading the chase to sign Leeds United striker Mike Grella according to skysports.com.

The 24-year-old North American spent part of pre-season training with the New York Cosmos but is keen to remain in England providing he can find a suitable club.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson has omitted Grella from his first-team plans, making him available for transfer away from Elland Road at the end of last season.

Interest from Npower League One is high in a player who played a prominent role in helping Leeds gain promotion from that division, but Grella has struggled to make the step up to the second-tier.

Carlisle United and Rochdale have also been keeping tabs on the situation, but Bees boss Uwe Rosler remains the leading contender to take him to Griffin Park.

Grella enjoyed loan spells at Carlisle and Swindon last season, and has scored five goals in 42 appearances for Leeds since moving to Yorkshire in 2009.
