Reading have come to an agreement with QPR to sign Mikele Leigertwood on a permanent basis.

The 26-year-old, who has been influential in helping the Royals reach the Championship play-off final, will sign a three-year deal at the Madejski Stadium on July 1 after a substantial fee was agreed for the midfielder.

Manager Brian McDermott is delighted with the capture of Leigertwood, who has formed an important midfield partnership with Jem Karacan. "I knew from the first day Mikele came here that he would be perfect for Reading, and that has proved to be the case," he said.

"I'm delighted he has joined us, not just because of his attributes as a player but also as a person, he has all the criteria that are good about professional footballers, all that the criteria that are good about Reading football club.

"He's very popular among the group, and we're looking forward to the next three years."

Leigertwood added: "It goes without saying but I'm absolutely delighted. I've been very happy since the first minute I came here, and long may that continue."
