Leon McKenzie is proving a sound investment for Norwich since his capture from Peterborough United earlier in the season and has already contributed to the promotion cause with some vital goals. Givemefootball's Lawrie Madden caught up with the striker after he'd notched another in the thrilling 5-3 away win at Burnley which keeps the Canaries top of the tree and bang on course for a return to the top flight.
Q:A THRILLER FOR THE FANS - WHAT ABOUT THE PLAYERS?
A:It was an exciting game and we had to do it the hard way by coming back from behind a couple of times, but we scored the goals at good times and it really was end-to-end stuff. We are glad to have won and got the three points as it keeps us on top.
Q:PERSONALLY, WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS WHEN YOU CAME TO NORWICH?
A:My aim was really to settle down into a new team, maybe play a few games and get a couple of goals here and there but I have settled in straightaway and it has all come together from the start. I have now scored six goals from my last seven or eight starts so it is a good return.
Q:YOU HAVE MOVED UP A LEVEL BUT SEEMINGLY TAKEN IT ALL IN YOUR STRIDE?
A:Yes, it has gone well for me. Norwich is a good club and I try my best. It is a decent level and I feel that I have proved I can play at this level. Many people doubted that I could do it but I always had faith in my ability. I could be playing in the Premiership next year and that would mean moving up two levels in a short time, which is quicker than I thought would happen. But it would be great for my career.
Q:HOW MUCH DO YOU OWE TO NIGEL WORTHINGTON?
A:Well, he brought me to the club and had faith in me when others wondered if I could do it. I appreciated that and realise that it is a gamble bringing someone from a lower division but I think I am repaying him for that.
Q:WHAT DO YOU PUT THE TEAM'S SUCCESS DOWN TO - SO FAR?
A:I think we have a good all round game. We are a hard working side and fully committed and the manager is on top of us all the time. There is no slacking and I think that we have a very attacking front line.
Q:IT MUST BE GETTING TENSE NOW WITH THE FINISHING LINE SO CLOSE?
A:There are a few nerves about but that is natural because the prize is massive. The prize is the Premiership and we all know what we have to do to achieve it. After all we have been through I would be devastated if we didn't go up automatically. It would be a dream come true to get into the Premiership but whilst it is still quite close we need a few more wins to make sure.
Q:WHICH OTHER TEAMS HAVE IMPRESSED YOU THIS SEASON?
A:I thought West Ham looked decent when we played them but they seem to have been a bit inconsistent lately and Sunderland will be there or thereabouts at the end - and, of course, West Brom are going well. Easter is coming up with a lot of games in a short spell and that may sort out a lot of the issues.
