Reading midfielder Marek Matejovsky has agreed to join Czech champions Sparta Prague for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old, who joined the Royals for £1.4million in 2008, has found first-team opportunities at a premium in the last two seasons.

"This is a good deal for Reading at this moment in time," director of football Nick Hammond told the club`s official website. "We have a large number of good midfield players and over the last two seasons Marek has been unable to hold down a regular first-team place."

He added: "Marek, like many, wants to play regular football and with so much competition for that position in our squad we could not guarantee him that next year.

"In truth, we are a little disappointed to see him go. Marek is a very, very talented player and we all saw flashes of his quality during his Reading career. It is just a shame we never saw it on a more regular basis.

"We all wish Marek the very best of luck in whatever lies ahead in his career."
