Michael Kightly is one half of Mick McCarthy's ‘twin terrors' who are hoping to fire Wolves into the Premier League. Along with Matt Jarvis, Kightly has been identified as the man who will provide ammunition for the likes of Chris Iwelumo and Sylvain Ebanks-Blake to score the goals that will return Wolves to the Promised Land. However, Kightly isn't shy of scoring a goal or two himself as a tally of 14 strikes in 48 league starts for the Old Gold boys is an impressive feat for a wide man and he has been an integral part of Wolves smashing home 24 goals in their first ten games of this campaign.

His form in the early part of the season has been impressive and recognised by supporters in the Championship where he was voted PFA 2UP Fans' Player of the Month for September. With Wolves currently lying second in the Championship behind West Midlands rivals Birmingham City, Givemefootball's Ian Clarkson spoke exclusively to Kightly as he celebrated winning this prestigious award.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WIN THIS AWARD AGAIN?

It is a big honour once gain as it is a good award to win. Not only does it include the supporters vote from Wolves but also from other clubs as well in order to win. It is nice to receive recognition from fans for the efforts you have put in and I am really pleased.

YOU ARE SECOND IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP – ARE THE TEAM HAPPY WITH THE START TO THE CAMPAIGN?
It has been a good start for the team despite the fact we have lost the last couple of games. If you had said back in August we would have won seven and drawn one of our first ten games then we would definitely have taken that. Our main ambition now is to keep this going as we don' want to be a team who start a season well and then fizzle out.

YOU MUST HAVE KNOWN SOMETHING WE DIDN' WHEN YOU SIGNED A NEW FOUR-YEAR DEAL IN THE SUMMER?
I am really enjoying my football at Wolves and I always have done so I was always going to be happy to stay at Wolves. I have gone on record as saying I want to play in the Premier League, as does everyone else at this football club. This is a Premier League club in the making and it is up to us to try and deliver that.

YOU ARE CERTAINLY THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND THIS SEASON WITH AN AVERAGE OF OVER TWO GOALS PER GAME?
We have a very good squad this season and lots of attacking options. Sylvain Ebanks-Blake only joined us halfway through last season but he has been brilliant and he will benefit from having a full season with us. Chris Iwelumo has been unbelievable since he arrived in the summer and he is a dream to play with as a wide player. If Matt (Jarvis) and me are fit as well and still playing well then we should keep on creating opportunities.

HOW IMPRESSED HAVE YOU BEEN WITH CHRIS IWELUMO?
What a good signing he has been. He is a great player with a great attitude and his work ethic rubs off on to other players. He has an excellent scoring record over the past few seasons with Colchester and Charlton and he has given us a lot more options.

ARE YOU ENJOYING WORKING WITH MICK McCARTHY?
The gaffer is an honest, decent bloke. What you see is what you get with him and if you are playing well he tell you but if you are under performing he will tell you as well. He is straight down the line. He has been in football for a long time and really knows what he' talking about so when he says something you listen. The fact he has already won the league at this level when he was in charge at Sunderland means he knows what it takes to get promoted to the Premier League and that is a big bonus.
