Former striker John Murphy has rejoined Blackpool as part of the coaching staff.

The 34-year-old takes up the role vacated by Stephen McPhee and says he cannot wait to start his new job.

"I'm delighted to be back and I'm looking forward to working with the team," Murphy told the club's official website.

"It was a complete surprise. I was in work on a building site and I got a phone call asking me to come back and now I've been on the training ground.

"The opportunity and role was too good to pass up."

Murphy joined the Seasiders from Chester in 1999 and had seven successful seasons at the club, scoring at a rate better than one in three games.
