Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is confident he will have no trouble keeping feet on the ground after seeing his side take a giant stride back towards the Barclays Premier League.

The comfortable 3-0 home victory over Scunthorpe put the Magpies 12 points clear of third-placed Nottingham Forest with a game in hand and effectively needing a maximum of five wins from their last 10 Coca-Cola Championship games to go up by virtue of their superior goal difference.

"It's a wonderful position that we have worked hard to put ourselves into," said Hughton, whose side is also four points better off than West Brom in second. "We always knew the most important gap was between first and third and we have worked hard to be able to do that. With the staff we have got and the playing staff we have got, I don't see that being a difficulty, bringing them back down to earth."

He added: "It's probably understandable that people outside the club and maybe supporters will think that, but it won't be a difficult job with this group of lads."
