Newcastle boss Chris Hughton will not wait forever to land his top transfer targets this month.
The Magpies' pursuit of Leeds frontman Jermaine Beckford, who handed in a transfer request on December 30, is ongoing as Leeds hold out for their valuation of the player amid reported interest from a series of Barclays Premier League clubs.
However, Hughton has admitted there will come a point where he will have to turn to alternatives if the men at the top of his list prove to be unavailable. Asked if the Coca-Cola Championship leaders will have to set deadlines, he said: "Yes you do, but at this moment, that's not the case. But of course, if it gets to the stage where you realise one is not available, then you have got to move on to the next one."
He added: "We are still working hard behind the scenes on the individuals we would like to bring in."
