No need for Preston to panic just yet

Stats don’t tell the whole story, says Preston boss Alan Irvine

Preston boss Alan Irvine says his side’s home form is not a concern despite North End failing to win their last four games at Deepdale.

Three of those matches ended in draws, including Saturday’s 1-1 stalemate against Crystal Palace, and Irvine insists there is no need to press the panic button.

“We have to bear in mind that two of those games were against West Brom and Middlesbrough, who had both come down from the Premier League,” said the Scot.

“They have both pretty much kept their squads intact. Statistics are great but you have to look deeper than that – statistics say we haven’t won our last four at home but you could turn that argument around.

“They were not easy games. We knew we were coming into a batch of games against some strong sides.”

The Lilywhites’ next home game is against leaders Newcastle in three weeks time and Irvine added: “We play Newcastle later in the month and hopefully we can get a good result that night.”
