Paul Ince has emerged as a new name on the West Brom radar after successful stints at both Macclesfield and MK Dons - but the prime candidate still appears to be Darren Ferguson, with Derek McInnes also in the hunt.

Former Albion boss Ron Atkinson is a fan of Ferguson and echoes the views of many about the Peterborough manager.

“Of the younger managers he (Ferguson) is one of the brighter ones,” Atkinson told the Express and Star.

"Whether they could get him or not, I don't know. But if they can't get someone of that ilk I would go for an impact manager - maybe even Gordon Strachan."

Whoever takes over at the Hawthorns will inherit a squad that is crammed full of quality Championship players.

Nevertheless, they will still need to be moulded into an effective unit and chairman Jeremy Peace knows the pressure is on to appoint successfully once again.
