David Nugent will not have been distracted by talk of Wayne Rooney as he prepares for the most important week´s training of his career.
The Preston striker, who is 21 on Tuesday, returned from a broken metatarsal in six days and five weeks as a substitute in the win over Leeds to give a shot in the arm to North End´s play-off hopes. He believes that his comeback should give hope to Rooney, who is sweating over his World Cup hopes after suffering a similar injury in Manchester United´s 3-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday.
"It can be done," Nugent said. "(Rooney) will probably read the paper and see it was six weeks in the paper and hopefully that´ll give him a boost and lift him up a bit and he´ll get back because England need him for the World Cup."
