Barnsley winger Adam Hammill has moved into a new house close to Oakwell – under the orders of Tykes’ boss Mark Robins.

The 21-year-old had previously been commuting daily from Merseyside since joining the club in the summer, but Robins felt all the travelling was not good for his game.

But Hammill has now moved into a flat just a few short miles away from the ground, and he said, “I am sure the gaffer will be happy to know that I’ve finally found an apartment.

“It’s a bit less travelling and, hopefully, that will bring out a lot more quality from me in games. He wants the best for this club and the players and I fully understand that.

“All that travelling does fatigue you. Staying over a few times a week will help and it should help me develop as a player.”

Barnsley have pulled clear of the relegation zone since Robins’ arrival and they take on promotion-hopefuls Cardiff tomorrow.

Hammill added: “It is going to be a tough game but we are feeling confident after a string of good results. We are heading the right way in the table and need to be pushing on.”
