Middlesbrough skipper Gary O'Neil could yet make Sunday's Coca-Cola Championship clash with Cardiff after being knocked out on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old midfielder was accidentally knocked unconscious, albeit briefly, by Keith Southern's arm during last night's 3-0 home defeat by Blackpool. O'Neill was stretchered from the pitch in a neck brace.

Manager Gordon Strachan said: "Gary's better now. He got a knock which shocked him a bit and scared him a bit.

Strachan added: "He's fine. We will continue to look at him during the week."
