Stoke midfielder Tom Soares has joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of December.

Soares, 23, becomes the second player to join the Owls on loan on deadline day following the arrival of Cardiff striker Warren Feeney and will go straight into Brian Laws' squad for Saturday's home clash with West Brom.

Laws said: "Tom Soares is a player I have admired for some time and is a midfielder with a great engine, who can get forward and provide extra ammunition going forward."

He added: "He played more than 150 games for Crystal Palace so has plenty of experience at Championship level as well as playing in the Premier League.

"Tom is also an athletic player and will bring more energy to our squad as we look ahead to a hectic festive fixture period."

Former England Under-21s international Soares was signed by Stoke in the summer of 2008 for £1.25million from Crystal Palace, for whom he played in the Premier League during the 2004/05 season.
