Peterborough captain George Boyd's record run of 138 consecutive Football League appearances for the club is under threat as Mark Cooper`s strugglers prepare to welcome Darren Ferguson back to London Road.
Boyd has not missed a league game since joining from Stevenage in January 2007 but limped out of the 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and is a doubt to face the visit of Ferguson`s Preston side.
Chris Whelpdale is a possible replacement should Boyd not be passed fit, but Shaun Batt will not feature after he joined Millwall on loan until the end of the season.
Central defender Ryan Bennett is available after missing the defeat at Hillsborough through suspension but Craig Morgan sits out the second instalment of a three-game ban and Gabriel Zakuani remains sidelined with a groin injury.
Ferguson surprisingly left Posh back in November after guiding them to back-to-back promotions and should be afforded a warm welcome from the club`s fans.
Cooper said: "I'm sure some of my lads want Darren to come and buy them for Preston so they will need to play well."
Preston will include new signing Danny Welbeck in their squad.
The 19-year-old Manchester United striker joined North End on loan for the rest of the season on Monday and is set to make his debut at London Road.
Welbeck, who becomes Darren Ferguson's first signing as Preston boss, has scored five goals in 24 appearances for United.
However, Ferguson will again be without Paul Parry and Barry Nicholson.
Former Cardiff winger Parry remains sidelined with a knee problem while midfielder Barry Nicholson (broken leg) is a long-term absentee.
Ferguson is seeking his first win since taking over at Preston and said: "I'd be slightly disappointed if I didn't get a good reception."
