Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam has beaten off competition from Darren Pratley of Swansea, Peterborough striker George Boyd and Doncaster front man Billy Sharp to win the PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Month for January.
The 11-league goal man has been in sensational form for promotion-chasing Pool all season and Seasiders’ boss Ian Holloway admitted he was delighted that yesterday’s transfer deadline came and went with Adam still at Bloomfield Road.
Middlesbrough were one of the clubs reported to have tabled a late bid for the former Rangers player, but Holloway said: “I would like to say to everyone who thought Charlie Adam would be going, come down to the Admiral this week and buy me a pint.

“But on a serious note, I am glad the window has closed. We can now finally get this fuss about where Charlie is or isn’t going out of the way and concentrate on the most important thing – which is playing football.
“Charlie is a great player, but I always said I wanted to add players to help him and make it a season that could be spectacular, not sell him and risk things petering away.”
Reflecting on the last few days of the window, Holloway joked: “Our secretary threw one of the funniest paddies I have seen on Friday.
“Yesterday the chairman was hiding in his bunker with his phone off and we had to track him down.
“And for myself, if I had any hair left I would be pulling it out. So at least it is all over now and we can get back to the pitch again and doing what we do best.”
